Australia and Oman are set to face off in the 10th match of the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados. This will be the first match for the Australian team, who faced challenges in their warm-up matches with only nine players and suffered a loss to the West Indies while chasing a target of 258 runs.
The Australian squad, including their IPL-bound players who arrived late, is now fully available for the upcoming game against Oman. Captain Mitchell Marsh, recovering from a hamstring injury sustained during the Indian Premier League (IPL) while playing for Delhi Capitals, will be playing as a specialist batter.
On the other hand, Oman showed resilience in their previous match against Namibia, managing to tie the game while defending a modest total of 109 runs, only to lose in the super over. They will be looking to maintain their strong bowling performance to put pressure on the Australian team on a slow pitch. However, Oman's batting lineup will need significant improvement after collapsing to 109 runs in their last game.
Hazlewood returns to bowl. Mehran gets off the mark with a crunching pull shot for a single to deep square leg. A shot in the air, but it lands safely between fielders for a couple of runs. Then, a length ball is lofted straight down the ground for a six.
Ellis returns, delivering from around the wicket, and narrowly misses Ayaan Khan's outside edge. Another delivery outside off, and this time Ayaan manages to get a thick outside edge, resulting in a boundary. The next ball is full and outside off, and Ayaan drives it confidently for another four.
Low full toss from Starc and Aqib Ilyas slices it just past the cover fielder. FOUR!! Wide now from Starc. The left-arm pacer brings the line in now. Hits Aqib square on the front pad. Given out by the umpire and Oman takes a review. Pitching outside leg and Aqib survives. Eventful first over.
Bilal to finish the innings. Full slower ball, driven to long on. Dropped! David's shot to long off is missed. Full on the stumps, lofted to deep midwicket, fielded on the bounce. Four! Slower length ball, David turns it through fine leg. WICKET! David is run out seeking a second run. Good over from Bilal. Australia finishes at 164/5.
Shakeel back into the attack. Starts with a front foot no ball. Stoinis doesn’t get the required contact, just a single to long on. Full and wide, Warner gets a single to deep cover. Stoinis fails to connect again, just a single to long on. Lofted down the ground but no timing, Stoinis gets a couple. Eight from the over.
Zeeshan Maqsood comes into the attack. Warner turns the first ball legside for a single. Stoinis punches to deep cover for another single. Warner takes a quick single to short point. Four! Warner pulls a short ball through deep square. Four again! He drives an overpitched delivery through covers.
Mehran returns. Stoinis mistimes his waft outside offstump, drives the next one to long off for a single. Appeals for lbw as Warner misses his attempted reverse scoop. Looks like it was off the bat. Four from the over.
Kaleemullah over the wicket to Head. On the stumps and chopped away for a single. Just outside the off stump now. Warner squeezes it through covers for a four. Kaleemullah slices one in and Warner is struck on his front pad. Oman appeals vehemently for an LBW. No reaction from the umpire.
Australian openers David Warner and Travis Head are out in the middle. Bilal Khan with the new ball for Oman.
First ball on the pads, Warner tucks it for a single. Bilal Khan bowls wide and full, Head smashes it for four. The pacer adjusts, forcing Head into defense. Six runs from the first over.
